“It is at these moments that you suddenly realize the splendor of the world we live in and the need for us to protect it.”

Marc Huitink - Essent

A special experience

When the Pole Track test expedition was making last preparations in Spitsbergen, Marc Huitink of Essent was there to get a taste of the adventure and to wave goodbye to the team when they left for the Pole.

The Pole Track team and their gear assembled in Spitsbergen.

Marc Huitink, manager of Product Management of the Sustainable Energy division of Essent, has been following the preparations for the test expedition through his collaboration with the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF). The project fascinated him so much that he chose to travel to Spitsbergen, from where the expedition team departed on their adventure. He intensely enjoyed the magnificent beauty of the surreal environment.

"It is at these moments that you suddenly realize the splendor of the world we live in and the need for us to protect it. I feel privileged to work for a company like Essent, being a pioneer in the field of sustainable energy. It feels good to have convinced more than 800,000 Essent customers to choose "green" energy. It's not a solitary effort though. In close cooperation with our environment and our customers we can make a difference."

"Spitsbergen was definitely a special experience, even more so because of the 24-hour daylight at this time of year. I would encourage everyone to go experience it for oneself, but on the other hand I hope that only few will actually do so. Unspoiled nature, after all, is at its best when it remains, well… unspoiled."
